Let me start by wishing you all “Happy Eid” and “Adha Mubarak!”
The attention-grabbing story during this month is the appointment of a new CEO at Uber, the largest taxi and automobile service.
Uber has appointed Expedia’s boss, Dara Khosrowshahi as its new chief executive. Khosrowshahi has led Expedia since 2005 and overseen it to become one of the largest travel companies in the world with a $23 billion market capitalization. Compared to the $70 billion value of Uber however, Expedia is a comparatively minor player. No official statement from either company was made about Khosrowshahi’s appointment, but we expect one soon.
After a hot and humid summer around our Middle East region, it is the time of year to kick back for a busy last quarter of the year. During this month we will be covering the Frankfurt Motor Show that will take place on September 12th and 13th (press days). You will be able to check out the coverage in our next issue or by visiting our website and social media platforms.
September is quite a special month to me. This month marks my 12th anniversary in the motoring journalism/media field and my sixth year as editor in chief of ArabWheels. When I contemplate, it feels like yesterday, while on the other hand, I find myself questioning, “Where did the months go?” It’s been another year of enjoyment, highs and lows, extensive workdays and restless nights, but I wouldn’t trade my career for any other.
November is also going to be a thrilling month. We will be present at the Dubai International Motor Show from the 14th until the 18th of November. Like every motor show, you will be able to visit us in our booth for some exciting activities. Another annual celebration that you’ve gotten used to over the past three years is the “ArabWheels Awards” ceremony. This year it will be held at the Meydan Hotel, Rooftop Level 8 on the 15th of November.
December is our month here at ArabWheels! We will be celebrating ArabWheels’ 15th anniversary. Yes, you read properly, it’s been 15 years!
What do we have in our September issue?
Mark attended the global reveal of the new E-PACE “Premium Compact SUV”, F-PACE’s smaller brother, in London. He also flew to Northern Norway to test drive both the Range Rover Velar and a new engine variant from Jaguar, the F-TYPE 2.0T – four-cylinder.
I flew to Canada, the place where I called home since 1990. I drove the most powerful hybrid sedan on Vancouver Island, the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid and from Victoria to Vancouver the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo. In Dubai, Ershad tested the Porsche 718 Cayman S and Mercedes-Benz V-Class. In Beirut, I tested the Lamborghini Aventador S.
